Education Philosophy – vocational nurses learn to be competent in their chosen field by obtaining the right education. Being a licensed vocational nurse provides an entry point into nursing concepts and principles. Students acquire the needed knowledge through the process of learning, refining and integrating nursing knowledge and science. Some Considerations When Applying for the Vocational Nursing Program

· Students must be a high school graduate and are able to provide a proof of GED.

· Students need to complete the prerequisite courses, BIOL 2401 and HECO 1322. These courses are available during fall, spring, and summer sessions. LVN programs are offered during fall and spring semesters.

· The LVN program can be very physically demanding. Level I and Level II clinical classes and labs run eight hours each day or 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday. Thus, students must consider if they can allocate that amount of time for their education especially for those who have other commitments such as jobs and family matters.
